Rosemary Hydrosol

rosemary

We made rosemary (rosmarinus officinalis) hydrosol today, so I thought that it would be a good time to explain just a few of the benefits.

What is a hydrosol?
It is the wonderfully potent, but safe liquid that is gathered through the distillation process of a plant.  When enough plant material is used, essential oil is also produced, and raises to the top of the gathering pot, where it can be piped off.  It takes a lot of plant, and a lot of time to gather a notable amount of oil, but thankfully our efforts are rewarded with a decent amount of hydrosol.

Just a Few of the Many Benefits
It is good for liver function. It works well as a skin toner, helping with acne and clogged pores. It is a good hair rinse that will strengthen hair, help get rid of dandruff, and lessen the chance of contracting head lice. For an ear ache, make a warm compress with rosemary hydrosol and place it over the sore ear. Do NOT put the hydrosol directly in the ear.
