Make Your Bar Soap Last

Whether it’s a morning face wash with the our Peppermint Tea Tree Charcoal Soap Bar, a hand scrub after a gardening session with THT's Gardeners Best, or a routine morning shower with THT's Morning Brew, it’s important to make the cleansing goodness last. With everyday use, THT's soap will last about 1-3 months depending on whether it is for shower or sink, and here are tips to help make that happen.

LET IT CURE

We hear all the time that customers don't mind buying soap that is still sitting on our curing shelf just as long as they can get their favorite scent, but there is a reason that we make you wait. The extra time you give for a bar to cure means it’ll be less likely to turn to mush when it hits running water. Unwrap new soaps and place them in a drawer or between layers of linens. This helps "cure" the soap (dry it out), making for a harder, longer-lasting bar. Do not store soap in airtight containers.

KEEP IT DRY, USE A PROPER SOAP DISH

Key to prolonging the life of your bar soap is keeping it dry as often as possible. Storing soap in path of shower water, or on a solid ledge built into the shower that doesn't allow airflow, will make the soap break down faster.

Pass on the fancy soap dish and use something that encourages air flow, one that has drain holes, or a textured bottom that keeps that soap from sitting in a pool of water.

USE A WASHCLOTH OR LOOFAH INSTEAD OF YOUR HANDS

Our hands have this amazing inability to produce and retain lather and a propensity to overwork the bar. So then, why do we keep trying to use them, over and over, to make lather?

Wash smarter by getting a washcloth or loofah soapy once with a couple good rubs of the bar, and then put the bar away. The washcloth or loofah will absorb the lather and keep it going for you, so you can keep on washing.

USE IT ALL UP

When the soap bar is almost all used up, the remaining pieces become too small to handle anymore. Instead of discarding the soap chips, simply place them in a soap-saving pouch like this one to avoid waste. You’ll get the full use of your soap bar, while also throwing in some extra exfoliation.

CUT IT IN HALF

By using half the bar now, and half later, only half the bar is exposed to water at a time, and thus, will last longer.
