Treating Gout and Kidney Stones Naturally

While gout and kidney stones are sometimes caused by the same thing, too much uric acid buildup in the body, kidney stones can also be caused by a buildup of calcium. Either way, the home remedy is the same. The key is to cleanse the kidneys, flush the system, and use herbs that combat the existing problem. The good news is that treating gout and kidney stones naturally may be easier than you think.

Chance Piedra (aka Stone Breaker) 

Chanca Piedra  is a herb also popularly known as Stone Breaker that is often used to treat stomach problems, bladder issues, liver and kidney problems.  It is important for gout sufferers to improve the health of the liver and kidneys in order to manage healthy uric acid levels. Chanca piedra is a widely used herbal remedy to fight kidney stones, breaking them down, and helping them pass more easily, whether the stones are caused from an excess of uric acid or a build up of calcium. 

In a clinical study of 150 patients with kidney stones (25mm in diameter) over a 6-month period showed that taking a tincture of Stone Breaker reduced the incidence of kidney stone formation quite significantly.

In another 2010 study chanca piedra clearly showed how the herb interfered with the many stages of stone formation.

In another 2002 study out of India chanca piedra was shown to help to increase bile secretion of the liver, helping with digestion and elimination of waste, and improved absorption of nutrients. 

A 1990 study conducted by German Dr. Wolfram Wiemann treated over 100 patients who suffered from kidney stones with chanca piedra and found it to be 94% successful in eliminating kidney stones within 1-2 weeks! 

Dandelion Root

Dandelion root is a powerful detoxifier, cleansing the kidneys, and reducing uric acid levels. 

Uva Ursi

Uva ursi is good for supporting kidney health and cleansing the kidneys. It was a common Native American remedy for urinary tract infections (UTIs), and has been relied on for bladder-related issues before well before modern medicine.Uva ursi is commonly used today as a natural option to assist kidney function.

Uva ursi is also a powerful herb to help combat inflammation of the kidney and bladder and reducing uric acid, which is of great worth when working in treating gout and kidney stones naturally.

Cleavers

Cleavers is multifunctional in the area of the kidneys and is therefore highly regarded and often included by herbalists in herbal mixtures offered for the treatment of kidney and bladder problems, including bladder infections, kidney stones, and prostatitis.

Horsetail

Horsetail has traditionally been used as a diuretic (helps rid the body of excess fluid by increasing urine output). One study examined the use of horsetail by people who had a history of uric acid kidney stones. In addition, horsetail herb has an infinity improving symptoms of the joints. Horsetail has anti-arthritis actions and is rich in silicon, a trace mineral that plays a role in making and maintaining connective tissue. 

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated can help pass kidney stones faster as well as help flush the system of uric acid. 

Research suggests you should drink enough water to have about 2 liters of urine output per day to prevent kidney stones. Dehydration is one of the leading risk factors for kidney stones.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Not only does apple cider vinegar flush the kidneys, it may help lesson the pain caused by gout and kidney stones.

Vinegar consumption may help reduce the formation of kidney stones, according to a review of studies. 

To try this remedy, add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to 6 to 8 ounces of drinking water. You can also add it to your favorite salad dressing.

Cherries and Cherry Juice

Cherries and cherry juice may be a complementary addition to treating gout and kidney stones naturally.  Research has suggested that cherries and cherry juice can lower a person's uric acid levels. To try this remedy, be sure to buy all natural tart cherry juice. No sugar added.
