Description
Hibiscus herb has been used as food and the flowers steeped for tea. Hibiscus has been used in folk medicine as a diuretic and mild laxative, as well as in treating cancer and cardiac and nerve diseases. Although information is limited, the potential for hibiscus use in with hypertension, cholesterol, and cancer, as well as for its lipid-lowering and renal effects, are being investigated. Five to thirty percent of hibiscus tea is composed of organic acids. These acids are malic acid, tartaric acid and citric acid. These acids help in boosting immunity, promoting healthier skin, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, managing inflammation, and improving digestive issues. Hibiscus tea has diuretic and choleretic effects, thus controlling blood viscosity by reducing blood pressure and enhancing digestion. Hawthorn flower is an excellent source of vitamin C.*
