As the seasons shift and spring awakens, we witness the beautiful renewal of God’s creation, but while there is beauty all around, for many of us, the beuity of the blooms bring the struggle of seasonal allergies, hay fever, and respiratory congestion. I am giving thanks today for God’s natural provision for allergy relief. Our Creator provided a living apothecary in the fields to help us find natural allergy relief without the foggy side effects of modern synthetics.
The Wisdom of Herbal Support
When our bodies overreact to pollen, dust, or dander, they release histamines—the culprits behind itchy eyes, throat irritation, and runny noses. My approach is to focuses on supporting the body’s systems rather than simply suppressing them, and that is why I love herbs! A few of my favorite herbs for allergy season are:
-
Organic Nettle Leaf: Often called the "holy grail" of natural antihistamines. This humble plant is rich in minerals and works beautifully to calm the body’s response to environmental triggers, and help improve itchy, watery eyes.
-
Organic Mullein Leaf: A gentle respiratory tonic that helps soothe the lungs and clear out lingering debris.
-
Organic Goldenseal Leaf & Root: Known as a "natural antibiotic" of the woods, it supports the mucous membranes and provides deep immune support, preventing secondary bacteria infection from sinus and bronchial mucus.
-
Organic Goldenrod: Frequently misunderstood as a cause of allergies, Goldenrod is actually a potent anti-inflammatory that helps clear the upper respiratory tract, dries up excess fluids and reduce upper respiratory inflammation.
-
Organic Angelica Root: Warming and invigorating, it helps move stagnation and supports healthy sinus drainage.
-
Organic Coltsfoot: A traditional favorite for its demulcent properties, specifically helping to ease "tickling" sensations in the throat and chest.
-
Organic Licorice Root: This "sweet" root is a powerful anti-inflammatory that coats and soothes an irritated, scratchy throat.
A Holistic Approach to Wellness
Using these herbal remedies for allergies is about more than just masking symptoms; it’s about honoring the temple God gave you. Use the herbs alone in a tea or tincture, or combine their benefits in your own herbal recipe.
Tips for a Clearer Season
Beyond herbal tinctures and teas, I suggest trying some of these holistic habits to get back to enjoying the season:
-
Local Honey: Consuming raw, local honey can help your body "introduce" itself to local pollens in a gentle way.
-
Nasal Saline Rinses: Use a Neti pot to physically wash away the "dust of the earth" from your nasal passages.
-
Aromatherapy / Steam Inhalation: Use the steam from one of my favorite herbs, or from Aller-G Tea to clear your sinuses before your first sip, or add a few drops of Aller-G Essential Oil to steamy water for a nasal steam. For on-the-go, try Aller-G Aromatherapy Inhaler.
-
Consistency is Key: Herbs work best when taken regularly to build up your body's resilience.
-
Prayer and Rest: Stress can heighten inflammatory responses. Take time to rest in His presence, and to meditate on the truth that He is the Great Physician, and the sourse to all that is good.
Featured Remedies From My Apothecary:
Aller-G Allergy Herbal Tincture is my favorite herbal remedy for hardcore seasonal allergies. The recipe comes from a one that I adapted from my grandmother's recipe. While teas are still an effective practice for allergy season, sometimes we need a concentrated "shield" to navigate the height of allergy season. Aller-G Herbal Tincture is a potent blend designed to fortify your body's defenses. By utilizing a herbal tincture, the plant’s active constituents are extracted at a powerfully concentrated level, and are absorbed more rapidly into the system, providing fast support when you need it.
Aller-G Allergy Herbal Tea is great for those moments when you aren't at your worst, or you are acting proactively. Aller-G Allergy Herbal Tea offers a soothing, warm embrace for your throat and respiratory system. This blend focuses on comfort and opening airways.
You can use these remedies individually, alternate the two, or even combine Aller-G Allergy Tea and Tincture. Simply steep the tea, and add a squeeze of the tincture to the cup before enjoying. It's such a win to combine the rapid absorption of Aller-G Tincture with the soothing, systemic support of the Aller-G Herbal Tea.

Simple Allergy Comfort Tea Recipe
A Gentle Blend for Seasonal Support
This recipe focuses on allergy relief, stabilization, and soothing.
The Ingredients
-
2 parts Organic Nettle Leaf: Your natural antihistamine powerhouse.
-
1 part Organic Peppermint Leaf: To help open the nasal passages and provide a refreshing lift.
-
1 part Organic Mullein Leaf: To gently support the lungs and keep the "breath of life" flowing freely.
-
Optional: A slice of fresh lemon and a teaspoon of local raw honey (to introduce your system to local pollens).
The Method
-
Measure: Mix your dried herbs in a small bowl. (A "part" can be a tablespoon or a half-cup, depending on how much you want to pre-mix!)
-
Boil: Bring fresh, filtered water to a near-boil (about 95°C).
-
Steep: Place 1 heaped teaspoon of the blend into a tea infuser or French press. Pour 8 oz of water over the herbs.
-
Cover: This is the "secret" step! Cover your cup or pot while it steeps for 10–15 minutes. This prevents the volatile, healing oils from escaping with the steam.
-
Enjoy: Strain, add your honey if desired, and enjoy while warm.
Herbalist’s Tip:
For the best results during peak allergy season, I recommend drinking 2–3 cups daily. If you find your symptoms are particularly stubborn or you're traveling away from your local environment, this tea pairs beautifully with the Aller-G Allergy Herbal Tincture for a more concentrated "double-shield" approach.
