Gentle Digest, our colic and teething tincture, is an alcohol extracted tincture, and for good reason.

• Glycerin tinctures aren’t as potent or effective as an alcohol tincture. Alcohol works to penetrate the cell structure of the plant material, effectively extracting the constituents, where glycerine does a poor job of this, particularly when it comes to some plant species.  Also, our cold extraction process, as opposed to a heat extraction process, helps maintain the full spectrum of the plant's constituents in the final product. When used as an extraction method, organic grain alcohol increases absorption without affecting blood sugar levels.
• A glycerin tincture is never a good thing when using it for anything tooth related. Glycerin coats the teeth like a wax and prevents remineralization and is not an effective choice for any treatment of oral conditions.
• Alcohol tinctures work faster and more effectively because they are absorbed in the mouth and stomach and bypass the slower intestinal system.
• Alcohol extracted tincture have a naturally longer are more shelf stable and have an extended shelf life.

While standard dosing (bottle directions) work perfectly well, Recommended Frequency Methods help you to know how to use a tincture most effectively for your situation. Not all three methods are appropriate for all formulas. #1 Volume - Herbs can work within 5 minutes to impact symptoms! To achieve in-the-moment results, take one serving. Serving may need to be repeated 1-3x for full relief. See individual product page for maximum daily servings. Think 'enough volume to get the job done'. Volume needs differ from person to person based on the herbs and the issue at hand.

#2 Repetition -Take one serving every 1-3 hours for a day or two then taper off to every 3-4 hours a day as symptoms improve, up to 5 consecutive days or as prescribed. See individual product label for maximum daily servings. Persistent frequency supports optimal response.

#3 Consistency - Consistency dosage, also known as a tonic, is about promoting optimal health through deep, nutritive support over time. Take one serving 2-4x a day as needed for ongoing support. Length of use depends on individual needs and formula choice. Consult with a practitioner before using a tonic beyond recommended use guidelines.
