Common Essential Oils for Allergies

Whether you experience seasonal allergies, or suffer all year long, essential oils may be used as an alternative or complementary treatment for your allergy symptoms. Popular ways to use essential oils include:

  • diffusing them into the air
  • using them in the bath
  • applying them to the skin when properly diluted
  • spraying them into the air
  • breathing them in directly from your palm, an aromatherapy inhaler, or the container

Using essential oils for allergies works aromatherapy by applying the oils to your body where they enter your bloodstream transdermally. Remember, you must always dilute the essential oils before using them on your skin, or use one of The Herbal Toad's already diluted roll-ons. Dilution rates vary for different oils, so be sure to check our label or listing for the oil that you are using.

1. Triple Allergy Threat When You Don't Have A Lot Of Essential Oils

If you already have essential oils and want to try a DIY blend, chances are good that you have the three essential oils that I usually suggest starting with, LemonLavender, and Peppermint. The three have numerous benefits individually, and can be blended in various ways to accomplish a synergistic effect. Because of their allergy fighting properties, you may want to try a triple threat blend if you don't already have our Clear Synergy Blend or Clear Kids Synergy Blend on hand.

Lemon

Lemon essential oil helps clear your sinuses and reduce congestion, common symptoms of seasonal allergies. It also provides a boost of energy and assists with alertness, which is another common struggle for allergy sufferers. Do not expose your skin to direct sun or tanning bed for a 24 hour period if you have applied Lemon essential oil topically.

Lavender

Lavender helps soothe your symptoms during allergy season because of its ability to calm and reduce inflammation. Studies have concluded that Lavender essential oil prevents allergic inflammation as well as the enlargement of mucous cells. Try using lavender in a diffuser for aromatherapy, or dilute it in a carrier oil and soak in a bath with a bit added.

Peppermint

Peppermint can reduce inflammation, a leading cause of allergic reaction. It can also immediately unclog sinuses and relieve scratchy throats, as well as act, providing relief for allergies, colds, coughs, sinusitis, asthma and bronchitis.

Recipe (buy all 3 at a discount)

  • 1 part Lemon essential oil
  • 1 part Lavender essential oil
  • 1 part Peppermint essential oil
  • Use 6'ish drops (depending on you size diffuser) in your diffuser, add a few drops to your bath water, or dilute 6 drops in a carrier oil for topical application.

2. Clear and Clear Kids

Our #1 choice for allergy relief! Clear is The Herbal Toad's popular and highly effective blend created especially for allergy sufferers. The pure, 100% essential oil blend is a mix that relieves some of the worst allergy symptoms and includes the wonderfully coveted essential oil of Helichrysum! Clear is a great choice for adult allergy sufferers, but we recommend Clear Kids for when allergies are a problem for children under 10 years old.

3. Deep Breath and Huff and Puff

Deep Breath opens airways and helps relieve inflammation in the airways. We have been told over and over again how much Deep Breath has helped our customers. For asthma sufferers, and children, Huff & Puff is the better option as Eucalyptus is not the best choice for asthmatics or children.
